Crying To The Sky

This gorgeous song by Be Bop Deluxe features two of the most awesome guitar solos ever played in my cold opinion. It would be beautiful enough without them, but oh my!

It's from the album "Sunburst Finish" (1976) when Be Bop Deluxe was a quartet:

Bill Nelson: words and music; guitars and lead vocals
Charles Tumahai: bass and harmony vocals
Andrew Clarke: keyboards
Simon Fox: drums

Here's the original:

It was remastered in 2004:

And again in 2018:

I'm gonna tell you something that you won't believe:
Bill was heavily influenced by Jimi!
You could hear that already, couldn't you?

What if I told you that this was a tribute
from one of the greatest players who ever picked up a guitar
to one of the other greatest players who ever picked up a guitar?
Did you hear that too?

And if not, listen to it again and see what you think!

Crying to the sky
searching for a silver lining
hoping that the clouds I'm climbing
aren't hiding rain

Nowhere left to go
every show now disappoints me
still the ghost of love lost haunts me
till my dying day

I could fly away
over this river of tears
but I think I'll stay
to face all my troubles and fight like a man
I won't fear
love is near

Crying to the sky
weeping like a silver fountain
praying on the holy mountain that it won't rain

I could say goodbye
follow the sun and moon
but that would be a lie
my heart's in your hand
and I'm leading a band full of blues
just for you

Crying to the sky
searching for a silver lining
hoping that the clouds I'm climbing
aren't hiding rain
