Out In The Sun

Here's a track from the Mystery Bin. I'd like to see Rick Beato try to explain "What makes THIS song great?" because I've been trying to figure it out since 1977.

Swiss keyboardist Patrick Moraz is a genius. The band he assembled for this project -- his second solo album -- was fantastic. Sort of. And this song shows them off, kinda.

Why "kinda"? The lyrics are dumb. The vocals are awful. The synth sound on the solo is miles beyond cheesy. And the solo is far too loud. It would work much better if it were buried in the mix -- in with the other instruments rather than on top of them.

Every time I hear this track I want to scream:
We can hear! Really! We would have noticed Patrick's solo! We're listening for him anyway! That's why we bought the record. Because we love Patrick! And we can hear! Really!
Some producers think we're all as stupid as we look. What a mistake. How could we be?

Anyway ... I hate this song. It basically has absolutely nothing going for it ... except ... I could listen to it all day long! There's something about it that grabbed me the first time I heard it -- and lifted me up! -- and it still lifts me up every time I hear it. That's why I want to share it with you! I hope you hate it! I hope it lifts you up too and I hope you play it over and over and I hope you hate it more and more with each listen.

Why? Because I hate you! You knew that already, didn't you?
