When "band dynamics" became too much for Yes in the mid-1970s, they took a "hiatus" during which they each made "solo" albums. And I've put "solo" in quotes because each of them interpreted "solo" in his own way. Of course!
At one end of the "solo spectrum", singer Jon Anderson disappeared into his home studio and didn't reappear until "Olias of Sunhillow" was finished. It was brilliant and/or insane, depending on your point of departure. But we all agreed that Jon sang all the vocal parts and played all the instruments too.
At the other end of the spectrum, drummer Alan White made "Ramshackled" with some of his friends. They included Kenny Craddock, who wrote the piece we are about to hear (but did not play on it), and Peter Kirtley and Bud Beadle (who played guitar and flute respectively). Alan didn't play on this either, but it was his "solo" album, and nobody was about to tell him what could or couldn't be on it.
After all, he had provided the "absence of percussion" that the piece really needed.
And sometimes the best thing you can do is sit quietly -- even if you're a drummer!
