Waterhole

There have probably been a hundred bands called "The Outlaws". But as far as I know, there have only been two of "global reach".

One of these bands featured three aging singers. I forget their names.

The other one featured three guitar players and I remember all of them: Hughie Thomasson, Billy Jones, and Henry Paul. They were all tremendous players, and they were all good singers, too. With Frank O'Keefe on bass and Monte Yoho on drums, they made a powerful noise and a joyous one.

We lost Hughie to a heart attack in 2007, but he left us an amazing body of work. This is just one small part of it: a track from their first album (1975), in which they smuggled a little bit of bluegrass into the world of rock.

You're welcome to your own opinion, of course. But I agree with Mary Poppins, who says, "It's practically perfect in every way!"
