Rory was also a charming, humble and gentle fantastic player, as you can see:
This is an old song, but it might still hold some relevance in certain quarters.
The guitar technique on display in the live clip is extraordinary but the director gives it very short shrift. We can only see Rory's right hand for a few seconds, but he's doing the same technique for the whole song. It's called "hybrid picking". He's got a flatpick between his thumb and index finger, and he's using his other fingers as well. It's the most advanced right-hand technique in the book, and he's doing it flawlessly. But we can only see it clearly around 2:47. Thanks for all the closeups on other stuff! We always wanted to see what it looks like from behind his left shoulder. Seriously!
Oh well. I'm not posting this as a master class for guitar snobs -- although it IS, and I admit I'm one of 'em. Mostly I want you to hear the song. I also want to pay homage to Rory Gallagher, from whom I've probably learned more about playing guitar than anybody else, including my best teacher. I want to remember Big Bill Broonzy as well. Two monster talents, both gone too soon. But they've left us this, and much more.
If you got money in the bank
Don't let your woman draw it out
Cause she'll take all your money and
Then she'll kick you out
I once had money and a fast Cadillac car
But I made one big mistake, let my baby know where they are
And she took all my possessions and
Then she threw me out
Now young men, heed my advice
I'll tell you once, I may not tell you twice
Keep an eye on your old lady anytime that she goes steppin' out
There's only one woman that I hate more
You know who that is, why that's my mother-in-law
My baby's pretty fast but her mother's even faster on the draw
My baby, my little baby
I believe she's gonna jump'n shout
When I walk down to the bank
And I draw all of my money out
Well if you got money in the bank
Don't let your woman draw it out
Cause she'll take all your money and
Then she'll throw you out
